Traditionally, floor construction in residential properties is largely heavy wet screeds or chipboard on floor joists. New dry screed boards offer an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional construction, together with outstanding performance characteristics.

Knauf flooring is suitable for any residential project, from individual domestic homes to multi-storey apartment developments. AFD stock a full range of Knauf Brio and Knauf Hugo screed floor panels. These robust, yet lightweight gypsum fibreboards have been specially developed for new and refurbished residential buildings. Traditionally, wet screed needs specialist trades for installation and can take days to dry before they are ready for traffic. Knauf Brio & Hugo reduces installation times significantly. It is easy to install, has no drying time and is ready for traffic in under 4 hours. Also, no extra moisture is added to the building fabric. It is simply glued and screwed into place.

Reduced noise and energy consumption

Knauf dry screed boards have high thermal conductivity. This is perfect for realising the potential of efficient underfloor heating. Traditional chipboard and wet screeds need large amounts of energy simply to heat up the substrate. This reduces response times and therefore means higher energy costs. Knauf Brio & Hugo is effectively thermally transparent. Perfect for both residents and the environment, thanks to lower fuel bills and reduced carbon emissions.

The high mass of Knauf Brio, Hugo and GIFAfloor also delivers a dimensionally stable installation, with a clean flat surface ready for floor finishes. Additionally, they reduce impact and airborne sound transmission. Acoustic performance can be further improved with the use of Brio & Hugo WF. The addition of this bonded, resilient wood fibre layer is perfect for refurbishment projects where Brio is used over uneven screed or timber planks. Acoustic performance is improved without sacrificing depth, as only 10mm is added to the board profile.

For exceptional acoustics, Knauf GIFAfloor can also be used to span joisted and battened floors. High mass panels, when installed over acoustic batten or resilient layers, creates high acoustic performances with the feel of a solid floor underfoot.
