Raised access floor systems as we know them today first appeared in data centres in the 1970’s. The birth of computer rooms required a solution that could meet the demanding network of cables required for connectivity. The AFD range of raised access flooring offers the latest specification panels and understructures to meet the latest demands.

Data centres, IT suites and telephone exchanges have moved on. Installations now require a vast number of data cables. The hardware creates significant levels of heat and are highly sensitive to static. Each data centre can contain a huge number of servers plus associated equipment, adding increased loading to the floor. In response, AFD offer a wide range of raised access floor products to meet the requirements of every project.

Robust and flexible design

Our Indigo full access raised floor systems are independently tested and certified to PSA MOB PF2 PS/SPU. They are available in medium, heavy and extra heavy specification to meet the loading demands of each project. Panels are also available to meet BSEN 12825:2001 up to Class 6, fully tested in accordance with EN 13501. Panels and understructure are tested together to deliver a compliant system. All panels are manufactured using whisker free zinc steel. This prevents damage to electrical equipment from metallic crystalline structures that can grow on galvanised steel, break off and become airborne.

Server racks require constant cooling to maintain equipment operation and efficiency. AFD supply a wide range of perforated panels and air grilles to meet airflow requirements. This permits the use of active cooling systems. Panel replacement air grilles can be used adjacent to each other to create effective ventilation using the raised floor plenum. These are simply repositioned as the scale of the operation changes over time, or as electronic equipment racks are updated.

All services can be distributed in the underfloor void. Full access means that maintenance and reconfiguration is efficient and easy. It also ensures that the working area above floor level is kept unobstructed, maximising space for the racks and not disrupting airflow management.
