The SilentStep® System is a residential acoustic hollow floor system designed to reduce airborne and impact sound transmissions whilst providing a solid-like feel floor.
A low embodied carbon system that can accept finishes directly, and is quicker to install than traditional cradle and batten. SilentStep® can easily overcome an uneven subfloor or when there is a higher void requirement.
Features and benefits:
SilentStep® is a high-performance acoustic hollow floor system designed for a residential application. The Knauf GifaFLOOR structural dry screed panel – FHB25 is installed on the SilentStep® Pedestal system that creates a void ranging from 23mm-400mm. Incorporating the SilentStep® Acoustic Pad – the overall system creates a comfortable living environment by reducing sound transmission and offering a comfortable feel under foot for any finish

SilentStep® offers excellent structural stability, capable supporting loadings with a minimal deflection. This is largely due to the high density that GifaFLOOR FHB25 offers (1500kg/m3). This makes the structural floor suitable for a wide range of finish options including ceramics, timber, vinyl and more.
There are two layout options for the SilentStep® understructure depending on the load and deflection requirements. Pedestals are quick and easy to install. SilentStep® Pedestal Adhesive is applied to the base, and placed onto the subfloor according to a pre-arranged setting out grid. The Pedestal head can then be precisely spun to the correct height and locked using SilentStep® Pedestal Thread Adhesive.
Point Load (25x25mm Stamp Applied) | |
---|---|
Standard Pedestal Layout – 600mm centres & 300mm at perimeter | 3kN @ 1.8mm deflection 2kN @ 1.3mm deflection 1kN @ 0.8mm deflection |
Extra Pedestal Layout 600mm centres, 300mm at perimeter + Extra pedestal in centre of panel | 4kN @ 2.0mm deflection 3kN @ 1.5 deflection 2kN @ 1.1mm deflection 1kN @ 0.6mm deflection |
The SilentStep® system does not contain any material that is susceptible to fire. As such it performs extremely well from a fire resistance & fire reaction aspect. As opposed to traditional cradle & batten systems, there is no timber or plastic involved.

The high density of the GifaFLOOR FHB25 Screed Panel combined with the SilentStep® Acoustic Pad provides a structural floor system that performs to an excellent acoustic standard. This ensures that neighbours in adjoining apartments or flats will have significantly less chance of hearing each other and therefore live happily in a comfortable environment

The SilentStep® system incorporates the highly sustainable Knauf GifaFLOOR FHB25 dry screed panel which is manufactured from gypsum fibre. Gypsum Fibre is made from 3 simple materials. Gypsum which is a naturally occurring material extracted from the ground, recycled cardboard & paper and water. FHB25 has been independently certified for sustainability using a lifecycle assessment and documented via an Environmental Product Declaration. There are no FSC requirements for this system

Compared to other materials such a concrete screed boards, gypsum fibre boards are manufactured from naturally occurring Gypsum. As a result, the SilentStep® system offers a solid acoustic hollow floor system that has “best in class” emission levels – making an ideal living environment for future users
Raised access floor systems are the ideal solution for projects in many market sectors. From data centres through to offices and retail premises, raised floors deliver benefits for the maintenance and reconfiguration of building services. Explore the sectors below for more information.
