Knauf GIFAfloor is a load bearing partial access floor system that is both robust and dimensionally stable. This hollow floor system is ideal for hard or continuous floor finishes in applications that require a service void. Knauf GIFAfloor is available ex-stock from AFD Ltd.
GIFAfloor is a tongue and groove engineered panel system. It consists of 1200 x 600mm high density gypsum fibre panels installed over adjustable steel pedestals at maximum 600mm centres. This creates an extremely strong and dimensionally stable floors over voids of up to 1200mm high. Partial access is provided by the option of purpose made service hatches, or runs of lift-able panels.
Knauf GifaFloor comes with excellent environmental credentials, making it an ideal low-carbon material to use within a project to help towards reducing the overall carbon footprint of a project. Manufactured from gypsum fibreboard, GifaFloor is a mixture of recycled paper, gypsum & water which is expertly formed into precise T&G panels. If used in conjunction with underfloor heating, the carbon footprint can be reduced even further. In comparison to chipboard, GifaFloor is proven to increase underfloor heating system efficient by between 36% and 43%. This means that the ongoing running costs of underfloor heating systems are reduced for the lifetime of the project.
The versatility of Knauf GIFAfloor means it is suitable for an extensive range of applications. Car showrooms, commercial offices, airport lobbies and transport hubs through to residential buildings all benefit from the system’s high performance. Loading performance can be easily increased by using pedestals at reduced centres. Additional strength is also possible by adding an extra panel layer laid perpendicular to the first, achieveing extreme load ratings. Access frames and panels can be incorporated into Knauf GIFAfloor as required, permitting entry to the service void. Air grilles can also be added to use the void as an air plenum.
Knauf GIFAfloor creates a monolithic substrate that is suitable for virtually any floor finish. These can be bonded directly to the panel, eliminating the need for expensive de-coupling layers. Continuous finishes such as carpets, laminates, timbers and vinyl floor coverings (over latex) are ideal. The high dimensional stability of Knauf GIFAfloor means it is especially suited for stone, ceramic and porcelain floor finishes.
The high 1500 kg/m3 density of the panels also delivers high acoustic performance, particularly when installed over acoustic batten or resilient layers. It also has superb fire resistance, with a non-combustible A1 fire rating. High thermal conductivity means it is ideal for use with underfloor heating systems. As there is no screed to dry, the heating system can be commissioned faster and floor finishes laid within hours of installation, instead of weeks.
